How to Pick Apart a Sentence

As you know this week we are working on grammar and being able to know the different parts of a sentence. My activity that I am going to record is "How to Pick Apart a Sentence". I will explain how to identify different parts of a sentence. I will write a sentence and tell them what the Subject is, what the Verb is, and any other part that that sentence will contain. I will then write another sentence and ask the students to identify the different parts of the sentence themselves.

The Catcher in the Rye Activity

You will be watching this short video of another students interpretation of the book "The Catcher in the Rye". Do you feel they did a good job of highlighting the important parts of the book? Why or why not? If you were to make your own movie trailer for this book what would yours include? What important parts in the book would you use in your video and what images would you use to enhance these ideas? What kind of music would you add to the background to portray the mood you get from the book? Incorporate all these ideas when thinking about how you would make your own movie trailer of the book.

Although this book "The Catcher in the Rye" by J.D. Salingers has been challenged and banned throughout the U.S. I still feel it is a valuable book for high school students to read. This book has been banned in various parts of the U.S. for language and sexual content. Also challenged and removed from several schools because the main character exhibits behavior deemed "inappropriate". It also has been challenged for its liberal use of profanity and portrayal of sexuality and teenage angst.The novel's protagonist, Holden Caulfield, has become an icon for teenage rebellion and defiance. Written in the first person, The Catcher in the Rye follows Holden's experiences in New York City in the days following his expulsion from Pencey Prep, a college preparatory school. I feel students could learn many life lessons from this book.
